In Australia.........

TreeTops Environment Centre, Tweed Valley.....

The growing trend toward 'green' living, and environmental sustainability has worked its way into the accommodation industry. Combined with the fact that people deal with stress every day leads to the demand for a soothing, healing kind of holiday experience. Getting back - to - nature is something that is becoming increasingly popular. In an environment like the Australian one, Bed and Breakfast Inns can be as environmentally friendly as they desire. Such is the TreeTops Environment Centre. Situated in Tweed Valley, TreeTops has the logical surroundings for the nouveau Bed and Breakfast of today. Establishments are gaining a respect for the environment and treating it as an asset, rather than usins and abusing it.

As seen in the the above picture of the TreeTops Environment Centre, the Tweed Valley presents the perfect theme for this Bed and Breakfast. It also proves that Bed and Breakfast Inns do not have to look like the 1800's type seen in the previous pages. TreeTops does not just have the look and surroundings of and environment centre, but it also has the facilities and attitude. TreeTops uses recycling practices wherever possible, much of it collected from timber mills and furniture shops.

The TreeTops philosophy is that people are temporary custodians of the land. They must thus preserve what they can,for use by future generations. The lodge uses ecologically sound practices to integrate culture, art, education and industry with nature. This kind of Bed and Breakfast is paving the way for the future, as it applies new concepts to old-fashioned needs.

....And Around the World.......

The Highland Inn of San Juan Island......

Another Bed and Breakfast that has used its location to its advantage is the Highland Inn. It is situated on a hillside on San Juan Island, the home of three pods of orca whales. wpe2B.jpg (20668 bytes)The theme for this Bed and Breakfast Inn is nature, where guests can 'get away from it all' on an island which also houses ealges, owls and other wildlife. In their own words, the Highland Inn is 'the perfect location.........a quiet getaway surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.'

Above shows the view from the verandah at the Highland Inn. Although it is not classical in its nature like other Bed and Breakfasts, it still offers the same services as a Bed and Breakfast would. Each morning, the innkeepers serve a gourmet breakfast to the suite, in the dining room, or on the verandah. The inn is open all year round. There are two guest suites, wach decorated in its own theme. The Haro Strait Suite is subtle in its elegance. It houses antique English furniture with an oriental mix. The Whalewatch Suite is decorated in French Country, with comfortable furnishings, for a romantic feel. In keeping with the healthy, nature feel, the Highland Inn offers fireplaces and Hydrotherapy Hot Tubs.

The Highland Inn proves once again than a Bed and Breakfast inn is a product of its history and/or surroundings. In this case, the Highland Inn has blended with its surroundings immaculately.
